Nichole Reed, Ph.D.

Lead

Nichole is an ecosystem scientist with seven years of experience producing scientific evaluations and managing environmental projects. She gained her PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago with a research focus on soil ecology and climate change. There she partnered with the US Forest Service to conduct long-term soil carbon sequestration analyses in federally-managed tallgrass prairie restorations. She also worked with the Department of Energy to evaluate the carbon sequestration potential of biofuel candidate P. virgatum. In 2021, Nichole was selected by the US Department of Energy to integrate her field research into the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM). During her postdoc at Arizona State University, she collaborated with the USDA Agricultural Service to assess drought impacts on southwestern grassland biodiversity and productivity at the National Science Foundation’s Jornada Long-Term Ecological Research site. Nichole now leverages her research expertise to bridge science and corporate strategy for sustainable management.
